Not exactly earthquake-ravaged Port-au-Prince but close enough for United Nations goodwill ambassador work: actress Angelina Jolie arrived in the Dominican Republic yesterday where she visited hospitalized Haitian survivors and met with Dominican President Leonel Fernandez. The ravishing brunette beauty is expected to arrive in Haiti some time Tuesday.
A spokesperson for Santo Domingo’s Dario Contrera Hospital said the “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider” star had toured the pediatric wing. “She spoke with several children and a Haitian woman who recognized her and requested help,” Dario Manon told reporters.
Shortly after the 7.0 magnitude temblor that devastated Haiti on January 12, Jolie and her paramour Brad Pitt donated a million dollars to Doctors Without Borders for relief work. Jolie traveled to Hispaniola Monday without Pitt, but not alone: Gonzalo Vargas Llosa, son of Peruvian writer Mario Vargas Llosa, accompanied Jolie on her humanitarian mission.
It’s been a busy week for Jolie. On Sunday in Miami Gardens, Jolie and squeeze Pitt packed Super Bowl XLIV with so many displays of public affections that onlookers might have been tempted to forget about those ugly Brangelina Breakup rumors — even if the superstar lovers hadn’t filed suit against the British tabloid that first reported the alleged split.
