Louis Gossett Jr. Undergoing Cancer Treatment

The 73 year old Oscar winning actor Louis Gossett Jr., recently made an announcement that he has been diagnosed with prostrate cancer. He also stated that the cancer was still in the early stages.

Gossett said an intensive treatment program has already been initiated and because it was caught in it’s early stages, he expects to make a full recovery. He is anxious to get back to his acting schedule and continuing to work with his Eracism Foundation as quickly as possible. The Eracism Foundation raises awareness on such issues as social apathy and racism.

The reason he gave for going public, was to set an example for the numerous African-American males who become victims of prostrate cancer. He stated that there was not enough emphasis in the community on preventative examinations and early treatment. Gossett said he hopes to encourage African-Americans to get earlier treatments and examinations.

Gossett said that this is one of the many life challenges that he has faced and has overcome. He doesn’t expect this challenge to be any different.

He won his Oscar for his role in the 1982 film “An Officer and a Gentleman” and he has appeared in numerous films and television roles. His memoirs are going to be published in May.
