Ellen DeGeneres And Simon Cowell A Good Mix For AI?

While it seemed that American Idol could not possibly become any popular, the hit reality singing talent competition seems to have added a new element that is loved by fans. On Tuesday, comedian Ellen DeGeneres, joined Simon Cowell, Randy Jackson, and Kara as the replacement for Paula Abdul .

According to many reviews, adding the comedian has worked out quite well.

Most reviews consistently state that DeGeneres has provided many hilarious comments, but has done an excellent job of not attempting to steal the show or make unnecessary comments.

DeGeneres stated that her history as a stand-up comedian has helped her become and excellent American Idol judge. Her comedy background is helpful because she knows what its like to stand up in front of a room and have to try and impress a crowd.

Critics are now spreading rumors that Ellen DeGeneres could be asked back as a full-time judge next season. There will be a full-time judge opening next season as Simon Cowell will leave the show to pursue a new opportunity. Simon will now be directing and producing his own new reality show, which will be called “X Factor.” While no official statements have been made, other rumors to replace Cowell include shock-DJ Howard Stern.

The day that Stern comes in is the day that I stop watching Idol. A person with no talent shouldn’t judge those who have it.

i agree 100%. that would be the worst idea they’ve had yet. of course, once the x factor airs in the u.s., people will probably stop watching american idol anyway..

  2. kake says:

She’s a good fit. I think she will bring more than Paula to the table in the way of comments. Naturally sparked with humor that will lighten the blow. I don’t see her replacing Simon but remaining as a judge. Simon needs a replacement in the musical business field to make it real & knowing who is marketable.

  3. Michele Worman says:

Ellen is not a guest judge. Ellen replaced Paula as a regular judge. I personally think she is doing a wonderful job and brings a breath of fresh air to the show.

  4. Martha M says:

I agree, I will not watch American Idol if Stern is put in Simons place, I personally can’t stand to look at him. And his ego absolutely turns me off. Big deal, he makes all that money, if that is the case, pay for a haircut and a makeover. He could sure use one.

  5. skipper raymick says:

as a family we watch idol, all shows, we like ellen, put stern on and we will not watch a show, period!

  6. Sandy W says:

If Howard Stern comes on, that’s the end of idol for me and my family!!

  7. Tammie says:

I was really getting tired of Paula, Ellen replacing her is a great thing. I’m bummed Simon’s leaving, and hope Howard Stern doesn’t join the crew, if he does, I’m done watching the show. Simon must be replaced with someone that has legitimate musical knowledge or talent.

  8. Linda P. says:

Although I prefer America’s Got Talent, I have watched American Idol quite a bit since it began. If Howard Stern becomes one of the judges, I will no longer be watching it.

  9. Mary S. says:

I think has been a good fit. She isn’t in the music line, but she loves music and has an idea of what people may or may not want. Howard Stern is not a good fit anywhere in family television. There are people in the industry I’m sure would be willing to step in when Simon leaves.

  10. emma says:

oh my gooodness… the show is falling apart! Next year, when Simon leaves :-( Randy Jackson will be the ONLY original judge!!!!! NOOO!
if stern comes on… i will not be watching american idol anymore. Whats the point? Also, I have Americas got talent to watch anyway

  11. Kris Wong says:

I agree with most of the comments above. I really like what Ellen can bring to the show. I always enjoyed watching Simon and how he put his own twist on everything. However, I think that adding Howard Stern would be a big mistake. I would not care to watch him at all. He is unpleasant in every way.

  12. Michael says:

I like the addition of Ellen to American Idol She is very funny and I think she is taking this new gig very seriously. She is very honest but not to harsh on the contestents. Howard Stern is another story. He is vulger and classless. If they bring him on to replace Simon they will lose at least half of there viewers.

  13. shara says:

I think Ellen is a very good choice for the show and adds some objectivity. The show is one of the best “family” shows on television. If you add Howard Stern into the mix they will lose half the audiance. There are a lot better choices out there.

  14. Michael Moore says:

How ,any of you Stern haters have actually ever listened to him? This show has “jumped the shark”. Stern will save it from demise. Get a clue.

    • IdolLover says:

Not a hater and I’ve watched Stern’s program many times over the years. But to bring him into Idol would be a mistake. His reputation is not favorable for a family show and why he’s not on network television. Idol will lose too many viewers. His aptitute isn’t in musical talent, it’s expoiting another kind of “star”. He should stick to satellite.

  15. 37tudorjohn says:

Ellen is the only judge with the balls – literally – to take on Simon, but only music industry people should be judging a singing contest. Ellen doesn’t have a clue what musical talent is, and it shows.

  16. kiddenlady says:

I like the show very much, but if Howard Stern is on it, it’s over. He is a waste of air time.
