Contrary to what had been announced yesterday, Canadian-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot is not dead.

The Orillia, Ontario native gave an interview to 680 News in Toronto, fifteen minutes after the media group CanWest had announced his death. The news spread rapidly.

“I am healthy. I’m fine,.” said Lightfoot.

Lightfoot, 71, was apparently at the dentist when rumors began to circulate, according his agent.

“It’s a hoax,” he said.

His agent has also denied reports circulating in the media.

Lightfoot ended the interview by stating that he is currently on his North American tour.
