Ever dreamed of owning a 14,500 square feet mansion? Well if you a millionaire movie star with a millionaire wife then you may be able to afford splashing out $26 million on the pad of your dreams.
Pacific Star Grabs Pacific Palisades Mansion
Tom Hanks, the star of many big screen hits and the forthcoming HBO Mini-Series ‘The Pacific’ (14th march 2010), has bought the former residence of Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy, both producers themselves.
Both Hanks and his actress wife Rita Wilson dipped into their pockets to stump up the cash for the snip $26 million property.
The Pacific Palisades home is a step up for the couple who had been living in 7000 square feet of relative squalor in comparison to their new home. The 14,500 mansion boasts a very roomy 5 bathrooms, four bedrooms all inside a home that has a majestic limestone pavilion split on two levels.
Deal of the Year
The sale to one of Hollywood’s favorite couples is said to be the single biggest property deal in Los Angeles for the year to date, and furthermore enhances an already massive celebrity status for the pair.
The property had been listed on the market data website Blockshopper.com for just over $26 million, and was built in 1996. It is set in beautiful landscapes not far from star’s haunt Malibu.

wonder if the market was sagging in the Mega real estate? I say if the price was right and you have the bucks, Buy it!
You live in three rooms, kitchen, bedroom and living room… Money could of been put to better use helping those who need it.
I’M sure dan that the have given and still ive alot of money to charitys… good for them. go big or go home!
“money could have been put to better use helping those who need it”
Spend your money how you feel, dont have an comment on how someelse spends their money. They made the bucks, no enjoy it. Congrats I am sure they have donated more $$ then you will make in a lifetime…..
NOW THAT’S BIG!
I guess he’s not an Obama Democrat. If he were then
he should be living more simply and giving to the
poor. Maybe he’s trying to protect the income he
has because he will be hit harder with taxes now that
Obama is in office.
tom hanks is an ICON of giving. WHO do you think got the ww2 memorial wall rolling ? sure wasnt our government.
This is a man who went from poverty to one of the wealthiest actors ever on his crafts and NOT Looks.
GO tom !
CJ? If all of these “giving” beautiful people have given so much, why is it that there are still homeless and starving people in the world. Kind of like giving a street person a cracker for Thanksgiving. As long as there are morons and thoughtless freaks like you, there will always be those who suffer while others live like a God. $26,000,000 home. Give me a break! UGH!
Hey firefamfour, Hanks and his beau are not on the list of top celebs for charity giving money spent only for serving on the board of directors. That gives them the opportunity to look in the mirror and feel good about themselves.
America stop and think. What human being in the world deserves to make the kind of money stars in Hollywood make? They put their pants on the same way we do. Most of them were just in the right place at the right time. Just dumb luck. And yet they go on TV and make hundreds of thousand of dollars to pretend they are someone else.
I want to know how they look themselves in the mirror and justify how they deserve all that money. Yes some of them give millions to charity, but do you not understand that that is like giving $50.00 to them with all the millions they have in the bank and all the millions they are currently making on shows and films.
The average American is struggling to save their homes and put food on the table. we are the ones that build the fancy homes for the rich and make the food on their table.
What about all the people who need medical treatment like transplants and cannot afford them, so they die because of lack of money. The children with cancer at St. Judes who go there because of the free care. St.
Jude need Hollywood’s millions.
Pamela Anderson paid 2 million for tiles for her pool.
Is that right. Oprah makes a billion a year. Does she
need all that money? She has made her money so any she makes now should go to help others. How much does she need to live out the rest of her life?
I am sick of the greed of celebrities and athletes.
Do they save lives daily like surgeons or research scientist? No they wear designer dresses that cost more than normal Americans homes and have weddings that cost 2 million dollars for a marriage that lasts less than 6 months.
America wake up!
wow – someone seems a little bitter.
Not Bitter. Just disgusted. So many people I know are having a hard time right now due to the economy. They are losing their homes, going without their medicines to buy food, losing their health benefits. unemployment running out and can’t find a job and wondering what they will do next.
I watch TV and hear about the Grammy awards and the stars bragging about what they paid for a gown for one night and I hear what they are paid and how can you say that it is right or fair to all those doing without because they are not a
“celebrity”.
How can you justify it?
debbie
you are an idiot. this is the american dream. not some socialist state. you think because you make money you should give it to someone else? worked out great for the ussr didnt it. you probably are stoked on universal health care to huh? “go work hard so i can pay to have the fat sucked out of my fat ass”
Debbie, you’re so right. If a banker gets a $10M bonus, that person is a “fat cat greedy pox on society”. If a celebrity makes $20M for 6 months of work shooting a film, they’re worshipped. What a hypocritical society we live in.
I hope there is a special seat in Hell for the greedy and self serving freaks just like Hanks.
Sure your name isn’t Dim Whit
Redistribution of wealth is not the solution. D. Whitman you are wealthier than 80% of the world just by living in this country. Shame on you for passing judgement. The world needs ditch diggers too. Enjoy your place in life and don’t pass judgement on others and how they spend their money. If you don’t like Hollywood money toss your TV and stay away from the cinema. Years ago Bill Gates took a pounding for his wealth. now he is looking to help all man kind. It took time for him to reach that level in life.
And I think Bill Gates should be commended and It is
wonderful what he is doing.
What I am saying is the celebrities in Hollywood do not deserve the salaries they are getting paid. There should be a cap on how much you can make to be in a TV show just as their are caps on salaries paid to auto workers, garbage workers et
Actors all say they love what they are doing, yet every year they demand more and more hundreds of thousand to act in their tv series. If they love what they are doing so much why do they need so much money to do it.
I can’t remember which baseball player it was but he signed last year for about 23 million over 4 years just to play baseball. It is total greed.
All I could afford to do was drive by and look at it. It’s an awesome house!
Is the house even worth $26mil.? prob not. the house only gets value based on location, status, demand, ammenities, materials and what a mortgage broker and appraiser says it is. I think the prices are disgusting. Us normal hard working citizens can barely afford a 1,000 sq ft house. Do we dream of having a luxurious home? yes, all of us do. Could they have been happy in their 7,000 sq ft home? yes. Im happy with my 1100 sq ft town house. But, it comes down to a persons own decision to do what they want with the money they earn. Do I think that kind of money could go to a better place? yes, but eventually it does as the money spreads to many people in the relestate and bank world and others, which helps keeps the economy going. If it stayed in Tom’s bank account, then it wouldn’t do a stinkin thing. I say, its their money, they can do what they want with it and enjoy how they want. As long as we continue to support movies, and TV we are the ones giving that money and allowing them to live this way. If you don’t agree with their choice, then just stay home and read a book. Oh, maybe not, cause best selling books gives millions to authors who, many live in upscale neighbor hoods as well.
This is called CAPITALISM. If you don’t like it, get out. This makes me think of little kids screaming, “that’s not fair! when somebody has something they want” How immature and bratty for a grown adult to get upset over how much money someone else makes.
Why is Tom Hanks spending any amount of money on a house a bad thing? Workers had to build the home = employment. Several contractors stayed in business through the construction of it = employment. High tax rate on mansions = money for public works. The list goes on. I don’t think a lot of you understand how this economy, or any economy, works. I suggest Googling Milton Friedman, and trying to have a realistic/objective conversation about real estate once you have learned the basics.
I am talking morals and ethics here. As Douglas said Tom Hanks could be just as happy in a 1000 sq foot house as in a mansion. And all that money could do so much good for so many others.
Yes building that house put contracters and laborers to work, but it could also put more nurses, doctors, hospital workers of all types to work also. What is the difference as long as there are more jobs supported.
We are in desperate need of more nursing homes and nurses aides to care for the elderly. Do you know that the aaverage nurses aide makes about $9.00 an hour? More and more people are going to nursing homes with Alzheimers disease than ever before and being a nurse or an aide can be very rewarding but it is also dirty, depressing back breaking work. They deserve so much more money but the homes cannot afford to pay because most patients are on medicare or medicaid.
If a person really and truly deserves to earn what they make I’m all for it. But come on, actors and athletes do not really deserve that kind of money.
A brain surgeon or heart specialist who saves lives every day do not come close to making that kind of money
Robert DeNiro is a great actor and yes I like watching him act, but should he have a 2 million dollar semi tractor trailer dressing room on every location, NO.This is extreme excess and morally and ethically it is not right. I’m sure Mr. DeNiro could get dressed in and relax just as well as one that cost say $10,000 and give the rest of the 2 million to help othes.
Dear Debbie,
Your rebuttal is kind of all over the place. I don’t think you understand how commerce works. Helping people is never a bad thing, but you’re now asking everyone to be put on a standard of what Debbie judges as excess, and jobs Debbie deems as rewarding more pay.
Debbie, actors aren’t dictators. They haven’t come into your home and demanded money. Their pay is based off of what they can produce for the studios that are their bosses. We vote on popular actors with our dollars. It is the nature of the market that some actors earn more than others. Personally, I think DeNiro is an amazing actor, and I enjoy watching him portray a variety of roles. Seemingly, many people feel the same way I do, so his work product (his acting) has a higher value. Think of this in contrast to another actor who is a poor actor, and cannot earn 1,000 a movie.
Debbie, I assume that you assist the elderly from the way you introduced it. I am sorry that this is a lower end job. It is the nature of our society. If you don’t want to make 9 dollars an hour, or want the elderly to have more money, go back to school. Study. Take a higher paying job, and donate the difference of your new pay check vs. your old one where you made 9 dollars an hour. YOU need to take responsibility for what YOU want, if that is charity or personal wealth.
You said doctors should earn more than actors – Some do. Some, doctors patent cell lines and become billionaires. Cell lines that limit the spread of cancer can, and are, be sold in the billions. They’re not given away. Basic math will tell you that 1 billion is more than 20 million (20 million being what a select few actors earn. ). This is a random fact, but I wanted to introduce some perspective into your view point.
Debbie, your opinion seems naive. This is ok… temporarily. I have been naïve about a lot of things, and remain so about others. Go to Youtube and type in Milton Friedman. Listen to him, and try to understand how things work. Try to curb your anger and enjoy the small things. If you are happy, than the people you help will see that happiness and their remaining days will be better. Also, life isn’t fair. Best to just accept it and move forward. Good luck!
Dear Dr. Awesome,
Could you honestly look yourself in the mirror and before your God and honestly say you are worth being paid millions of dollars a year for your job and should live in a 26 million dollar house? If so your ego is out of this world.
Actors are dictators in that they threaten to quit their hit shows if they don’t get more money. Friends and CSI as examples.
And no I don’t work in a nursing home. But my mother died in one and I have seen first hand
what the aides deal with everyday. Yes they could go to school and get a better job, but tell me if they all did that who do you think is going to take care of all the baby boomers entering nursing homes today? We need people who are willing to do “lower end jobs” or who will take care of our mothers and fathers in nursing homes.
I have a friend who has to have dialysis every
day. She needs a kidney transplant but needs
$135,000 to have it. She doesn’t have that kind of money. This happens all across the country everyday.
I don’t begrudge people having money. My niece makes hundreds of thousands a year and earned every dime through hard work and did it all by herself. SHE EARNED IT.
I just don’t feel actors deserve all the money being paid to them, or athletes.
I guess I am naive to think that people should have morals and ethics. And yes I do give what I can to charity. I am happy by the way and do enjoy the small thing in life. Maybe Hollywood should do the same.
Debbie,
I going to state my rebuttal in points, because your response is kind of everywhere. These points will address things you posted by first quoting your post.
i) “I don’t begrudge people having money.” I never said you did. Therefore the introduction of this defensive statement by you leads me to believe that you do begrudge people with money.
ii) “you are worth being paid millions of dollars a year for your job and should live in a 26 million dollar house?” If I had the money I could spent a lot on myself. Personally, I wouldn’t buy a 26 million dollar home, but I would buy a multimillion dollar ranch. This is a personal preference.
iii) “I just don’t feel actors deserve all the money being paid to them, or athletes.” That’s right Debbie, ‘YOU’ don’t feel these jobs deserve high pay. The world doesn’t work according to Debbie’s opinions.
iv)”Actors are dictators in that they threaten to quit their hit shows if they don’t get more money.” Give me a break. You’re typing to me over the internet, Google dictator.
v) “I guess I am naive to think that people should have morals and ethics.” Debbie, your application of ethics and economics would hault any economy. Further, what if Bill Gates had piece mealed out his charity like you’re suggesting others do (Debbie’s contention from what I can tell – if you get enough immediately give it away), he would not be able to save the thousands of people that he has. They’re estimating that Bill Gates will have saved millions of people by the time he is through. But he had to become the world’s richest man first. And I’m pretty sure his house cost more than 26 million dollars (wikipedia list Bill Gates house as being worth around 147 million.).
I am beginning to think that Debbie is someone messing with all of us, and that Debbie might actually be a Dave or a Mike in a dorm room laughing it up.
However, if Debbie is a real person – than you need to Google Milton Friedman. Watch the Youtube clips. Maybe read Ayn Rand (If you like philosophy I further sugget Alain De Botton – Consultations of Philosophy. You’ll feel a lot better once you read this. This book even addresses how it is not evil to acquire wealth.). Once you get through some of this material, I want you to read about dictators. Whether you realize it or not, your immediate rebuttal of claiming that actors were dictators is very offensive to people who have suffered, and continue to suffer, at the hands of dictators.
Dr. Awesome,
Going by your sign on name you are apparently quite full of yourself. This started out as a person venting their opinions and turned into a personal attack by Mr. Awesome.
This is a free country and I have opinions just as you seem to have your own opinions. To each his own.
Your last sentence was totally uncalled for. You brought up the dictator word to begin with. This comment is totally uncalled for. My comment was only directed to celebrities. Why are you so offended by what I have said? They are only my opinions and I may not understand why other people are not as say “upset” as I am about it, I felt like
telling someone how I feel about it all.
I am so sorry for meandering around with my comments but I said what came to mind at the time. So sorry I did not meet with your supreme approval.
I did not know I was in this world to meet with it,
but I will laugh it up as you say because of your arrogance over a simple vent.
Maybe your should calm down and smell the roses.
