The Silver Fox Anderson Cooper Replacing Katie Couric?

Katie Couric may be looking for a job in the near future. Her current position as an anchor and managing editor on the CBS Evening News program is up for renewal next year.

Critics have been dogging Couric for years on her inability to draw a strong fan base. Rumors have circulated in the past about CBS executives firing her before her contract was up. Recent reports suggested Couric was being forced to take a pay cut from her lofty 15 million dollar a year salary. The success as a morning news anchor did not follow her to her new home on the evening news program. Couric has struggled in the ratings race the entire time she has been in the anchor position.

The upcoming job vacancy may be given to CNN’s Anderson Cooper. Rumors are circulating that CBS executives had a meeting with Cooper to discuss the possibility. Cooper’s rep has denied the rumors and states the meeting had nothing to do with Couric’s job. Cooper regularly contributes to the 60 Minutes program that airs on CBS and his role on that program is all that was discussed in the meeting. Other rumors suggest Cooper is being courted to accept a position on The Early Show.

Ever since the “coverage” by Ms. Couric at the inauguration she has lost all credibility. If the footage was reviewed, she would be seen as a totally biased gloating “winner” since her candidate won, and her comments were totally irrelevant as she constantly made negative references to the outgoing head of the country. She’s a disgrace to the news world.

Thank you for saying that…..I thought I was the only one who noticed the gleem in her eye-you can read her emotions while she is reporting the “news”. The whole idea of news is just to report the facts-this does not happen with Katie.

I like her, liked Dan Rather also. She just grinned because she found out how lame some of the people she was interviewing were. 10 words out of the GOP VP Candidates mouth and I would have fell over laughing. Give her at least 10 attaboys. Other than that she was spot on.

No, Couric was correct, as usual, with her comments. Don’t know what you were watching, but all of the coverage by her on that day was extremely professional, as usual! She is a proud American!

I think America likes to think of Katie as the AllAmerican wake up girl of yore. That infectious smile. The right time slot for her to wax from serious to giddy. In other words, Katie was good to wake up to, not go to sleep to. Not only that she had to take on a matronly, dower personality which didn’t work for her. Too bad. She should’ve stayed right out in her own back yard. After all, that’s where they say happiness lies, right?

    • Diane Davison says:

I agree that Katie Couric was beloved on the am ‘soft core’ wake-up news. Whoever thought that she would be great in a severe news anchor desk job was nuts. That is exactly why she was so popular at the Today Show. She was cute and had a bubbly personality so that she could be interviewing oh, say, President Bush at the time and get him to say something sort of off the cuff which made her famous. Now, she is a newsreader with no personality, but a great paycheck. It doesn’t look like she is happy there either so I welcome Anderson Cooper and Kate can find plenty of opportunities elsewhere.

    K. C. has a long ways to go as a news woman. She has lost all respect from me. CBS, I may watch your station again

I like her!!! What can I say? Her image carred over from the Today Show and I find her pleasing to hear and easy on the ears. She’s not into all the drama and “over and over again” that Bryan Williams is. He is good but PULEEZE…….when you cover a story just cover it and be done with it……..he finds a way to stretch it out for an entire week (yawwwwwwwwwwwn). Diane Sawyer is just plain boring!!! No sir…I like Katie and I hope she stays. It’s not her fault that the network is in 3rd place……why not look to the top execs? After all they call the shots not her!!!

I also liked katie on the Today Show…but I like Meredith, too!

I think Katie Couric did what we all need to do…. support our new President! That is ALL!!
Show pride in America and put your support in the elected leader of our country!

  8. George Allen says:

Support the elected leader of the country! On the first day of the new term is no time for Couric to be focusing ongoingly (as she did countless times) with snide and irrelevant comments about the outgoing leader. This is not about politics. It’s about “reporting” with an agenda which was not pretty as she showed her behind that day!
