American Idol Contestant Hospitalized

25-year-old, American Idol contestant David Cook was hospitalized the night of Tuesday April 2, 2010 for high blood pressure and heart palpitations.

However, he was never actually admitted to the hospital “Idol” producer Nigel Lythgoe said during an interview with the press.

Cook is still on medication but is “fine now and will be continuing with American Idol,” Lythgoe stated. The Missouri bartender was treated at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles for heart palpitations and high blood pressure sources say. Show medics say that Cook’s blood pressure was “far too high” and urged the singing “Idol” to seek treatment by doctors. Cook did not want to leave the show, however, without it first concluding. TMZ.com reported Cook was then rushed to the hospital, where the doctors gave him medicine to bring down his blood pressure and then released him after a few short hours stay, the web site said.

According to TMZ, an “Idol” source said Cook, who was a high contender for the singing competition, has been under a tremendous amount of stress and pressure lately due to the fact that his brother is fighting a battle with cancer.

In an earlier show, Cook collapsed before performing on the show, saying he could not continue, but was able to gather himself and finished through with his performance.
