At first glance it would seem that Simon Cowell & Bowersox would be polar opposites at best. However it seems that this laid back American Idol contestant has managed to tame the acerbic Brit with her self deprecating humor and unflappable demeanor. It also helps that Crystal Bowersox has a prodigious amount of undeniable musical talent.

The dreadlocked singer with the husky voice and magical guitar is sweeping through the first weeks on AI as one of the breakout performers of the season. Even sharp tongued Simon has found little to criticize when Bowersox takes to the stage. Certainly Crystal Bowersox remains a bit rough around the edges but she has a voice that invokes images of Janis Joplin and Stevie Nicks at their very best. When she combines her soulful vocal notes with the bluesy chords from her guitar Ms. Bowersox can charm the entire audience in a matter of moments.

The AI judges have all been seen giving kudos to their favorite performers during the early weeks, but for most TV fans it is obvious that there is a surprising connection this year between Cowell & Bowersox. Although Crystal’s fantastic voice should carry her through to the finals there is still concern that the Simon Haters will try to vote his “fave” out of the contest just for kicks. Let’s hope that this amazing AI duo makes it through to the finals later this year.
