Katherine Heigl To Leave Grey’s Anatomy

It appears that the days of Katherine Heigl being a star on ABC’s hit show “Grey’s Anatomy” are over.

According to recent entertainment reports, Shonda Rhimes, who is the series creator, has agreed to let Heigl out of her contract. Heigl had been on maternity leave for the past three months, but the leave was scheduled to have ended on March 1. When Heigl did not return to the set following that date, rumors of her exit from the show started.

Heigl, who plays doctor Lizzie Stevens, was essentially written out of the current season of Grey’s Anatomy. In the show, Heigl’s character was fired from the hospital and essentially fled after her employment was terminated. While her character did return for a couple episodes, it did not seem as if she would return again.

One reason for Heigl’s departure from the show may be the success she has had in the movie industry over the past few years. Over the past few years Heigl starred in various hit movies including “Knocked Up,” “27 Dresses,” and “The Ugly Truth.”

All of her success has led to some recognition. Next week Heigl will accept ShoWest’s female star of the year award.
