Quentin Tarantino a Plagiarist?

In 1999, according to a lawsuit by filed Dannez Hunter, he submitted a script to Miramax Studio. The script, which featured a samurai woman named Ren who, in an anime sequence, witnessed the death of her mother, is similar to one of the characters in Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 epic “Kill Bill Part One”. Named in the lawsuit is Tarantino, Bob and Harvey Weinstein, Miramax, The Weinstein Company, and the producer of Kill Bill, Lawrence Bender.

“Kill Bill Part One” features an assassin named O-Ren Ishii, played by Lucy Liu. In one sequence, shot in Japanese Anime style, O-Ren watches from under a bed as her mother is brutally murdered.

Hunter also claims that he applied for a writing job with Miramax, but was never contacted. He contends that other less-qualified writers, both Jewish and white, were given jobs while he was ignored.

Tarantino has made no comments on the lawsuit.

Tarantino was nominated for this year’s Academy Award in the Best Director and Best Original Screenplay categories for his film “Inglorious Basterds”. He won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for “Pulp Fiction” (1994). He is also known for other controversial hits such as “Jackie Brown”, “Death Proof”, and the cult classic “Reservoir Dogs”.
