Mel Gibson is working with screenwriter William Monahan, of Edge of Darkness, on a Viking epic. The movie, which currently has no title, will be set in the 9th Century. Gibson is well known for Apocalypto and The Passion of Christ, films made with the native tongue of the time. The new Viking movie may be done in old Nordic.
In a recent LA Times interview Gibson spoke of his fascination with the Vikings, dating it back to his childhood studies of the English language. “It was the first movie I ever thought about making,” Gibson said. “I saw it in my mind back when I was teenager. Seriously, it’s the first movie I wanted to make. And I think it will be the last film I direct. It’s the thing I have been going toward, in a way, since I was young, and I think when it’s done I may be finished.”
Leonardo DiCaprio will star in the film, though his character has yet to be revealed. DiCaprio’s interest in starring in a Viking production was the spark that brought the two actors together. Gibson has no plans at this time to star in the film but that could change.

I’d love to work on this film… if it gets made in Canada or Europe, sign me up!
What a beautiful circle…..it’s just that we do not want to lose you. Hugs, Milli
I should like very much to read an interview with Gibson to see what his take is on still another infamous sex scandal involving the Roman Catholic Church. I should further add that such an interview include none other than Sean Hannity, that is, if you can draw Hannity away from his boring crusade against Barack Obama.
John West is worried about what Mel Gibson has to say about the catholic church while obama is taking this country down the tubes in a rocketship. He thinks Hannity is boring. Wakeup John and get your priorities straight. Hannity’s not the only one worried about this guy. Read and liston son.
Mr. West, As an agnostic man I have no special intrest in religion. But, on the same token I don’t poke fun at what others believe. You would be wise to do the same. I read about the scandals and find myself wondering why those men of “faith” would do such things. I would assume from your comments that you have no faith..not even in yourself. You would like other people to assume responsibility for your life, health, and I would even go as far as saying your very being. You sir, have nothing inside Sean’s “boring crusade” against our current president is one of the most noble causes I have seen in recent years. As a thirty year vet with alot of time in regions that have your style of government I have seen what it does to the human spirit. Makes men into dull beasts and cruel men into vicious animals. As you can see I was a SEAL, and by your standards and animal also. But, unlike Bruce willis in “tears of the sun” I CAN remember doing somthing good. I have MANY memories of good deeds done somtime in times of crisis. I did my job, kept you and yours safe, and no, I know you didn’t ask me to, But I did it anyway. I would do it again, even if you didn’t ask me to.
I would love to see this film, but seriously…Leonardo. Come on people!
It may be his last movie to DIRECT. He never said he was going to quit acting.
I hope Mel Gibson will use Sissel Kyrkjebø the Norwegian singer for his Viking Movie sound track, She was the one in the Lillihammer handover at the 1992 Albertville Olympics riding on the giant Ice Bear singing the
enthralling melody,” Molde Canticle”, as the Vikings were presented, along with the Norwegian Children. She also sings the hauntingly beautiful Norwegian song about Vikings returning home from the sea called, “Lær Meg Å Kjenne”.
