Toronto Was Never Paying for Corey Haim Funeral

The city of Toronto is confirming that actor Corey Haim’s funeral will not be paid for by the city. The former teen idol who starred in the classic movie “The Lost Boys” died unexpectedly last week. Many are speculating that the 38 year-old actor died of a drug overdose because of his lifelong struggle with substance abuse. However, the toxicology reports are still pending and the cause of death is still unknown. Haim’s agents have insisted he spent the past few weeks attempting to get clean, and may have incorrectly mixed prescription medications that were given to him by doctors. They deny that any illegal drug use caused Haim’s death.

Haim’s mother, Judy Haim, recently announced the funeral would be financed by the city of Toronto. However, the city’s communications director, Kevin Sack, made a statement denying these claims. Sack said, “The City of Toronto confirms no involvement in funeral costs for Mr. Haim. The City of Toronto has never received an application for assistance with the funeral costs for Mr. Haim.”

Haim’s family has decided to make the funeral a very small service with few attendees. It is for this reason that actor Corey Feldman is not planning on attending his best friend’s funeral. Feldman and Haim were once so close the media often referred to them as “The Coreys”.

In a statement, Feldman said, “The family has decided to make Corey’s funeral on Tuesday a small private affair. Understanding the recent media attention and to be respectful of the family’s wishes I have decided not to attend. Instead I will remain in Los Angeles quietly mourning and planning his memorial.”

Haim will be buried during a small, family-only service at Steeles Memorial Chapel, a Jewish funeral home. The funeral home is located just north of Toronto, in Thornhill.
