There used to be a program that ran for 208 episodes called the General Electric Theater. It was hosted by the late President Reagan. It ran from 1954-1962. The tapes once thought to be lost were found in the GE archives and delivered to Nancy Reagan. They were first restored to broadcast quality before being turned over to the former First Lady. The tapes will reside at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley California.
During the 1950′s Ronald Reagan, then an actor, traveled to all the GE plants as a goodwill ambassador. General Electric CEO Jeff Inmelt made the presentation. $10 million was also presented to the library by Mr. Inmelt, representing General Electric.
Ronald Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 and the presentation was for the coming centennial celebration of the former President’s birth. There will be a new museum at the library celebrating Ronald Reagan’s career in television, radio and in film. Some of the money will go for future scholarships.
Many people were not aware of Ronald Reagan’s long career in movies and on television as a host. His career was very eventful prior to becoming president. This was a nice gesture on the part of General Electric.
