Christie’s to Auction Princess Di’s Home and Rare Antiques


Christie’s auction house will sell many of the posessions, worth about $30 million dollars, from Althorp House. The home, located in Northamptonshire, in central England, is the childhood home of Princess Diana. It is also the location where her body was buried following her death in a brutal car crash. The home is presently occupied by her brother, Earl Charles Spencer.

The auction will feature some amazing antiques and pieces of art. One such offering will be Rubens portrait. This piece is from the 17th Century. It is possible it will bring a price of $18 million. This particular portrait, ‘Commander Being Armed for Battle,’ has been in the Spencer family since 1802. According to Christie’s it is a museum-quality masterpiece which will bring wide international appeal when it is auctioned this summer. Another art piece to be auctioned was painted by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri in the 17th Century. Additionally, there will be horse-drawn carriages from the 19th Century. There will also be a selection of French and English furniture to be auctioned.

Spencer, who has recently become engaged to Lady Bianca Eliot, who will become his third wife, has indicated the monies raised from the auction will be invested to protect the long-term future of the home.
