“South Park” Producers, Target on their Backs?
This time the creators of “South Park” may have taken it a little too far by making fun of the Prophet Muhammad.
The ever-so-popular Comedy Central cartoon, “South Park,” is facing some pretty harsh repercussions due to their 200th episode in which there was a depiction of the Prophet Muhammad hidden in a bear suit. It seems that it has stirred up some anger in a Queen’s-based radical Islamic group.
They wrote on their website RevolutionMuslim.com, “We have to warn Matt [Stone] and Trey [Parker] that what they are doing is stupid.” It continued with a warning referring to a filmmaker who was murdered in 2004 for producing a documentary that addressed violence toward Muslim women, “They will probably end up like Theo Van Gogh for airing this show.” They concluded that what they wrote was not a threat but rather, it is a warning of what is to come.
Matt Stone, Trey Parker and Comedy Central refused to comment on the threats; however, it does not seem that they are too worried about the warnings. The “South Park” website announced that the Muhammad plot would continue on last night’s episode.
RevolutionMuslim.com’s website has since been removed from the internet.
