Elisabeth Sladen, best known for her role as Sarah Jane Smith on Doctor Who, and later The Sarah Jane Adventures, lost her battle with cancer Tuesday morning. The Doctor Who Magazine posted on their twitter page that it was with great sadness that they had to report the loss of a beloved actress, and a best friend to all.
Former writer for Doctor Who, Russell T Davies, made the comment that he absolutely loved her and that she was funny, clever, and cheeky. She was a wonderful person, and the world was lucky to have had her.
The current head writer, Steven Moffat, said that some people say you never get to meet your heroes, but they weren’t speaking of Lis Sladen. She was everyone’s hero, and she was just as brave, and funny in real life as she was on the show.
Elisabeth Sladen leaves behind her daughter Sadie, and husband Brian Miller. She was 63 years-old.
