As the Playstation Network enters its tenth day down, Sony scrambles to please disgruntled video gamers previously promised that the network would be down for no more than two days. The company eased some user concerns Thursday by posting a blog entry addressing player settings, friend lists, and trophies, stating that, once the network is back up, none of this user information will be lost.
The large scale network hack has caught the attention of the United States government, prompting the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to step in and assist Sony with the Playstation Network outage. The United States Department of Homeland Security is not the only government agency concerned with the hack; the United States Congress is now investigating the security breach at Sony, and has scheduled a hearing for May 4. The company will be expected to answer a listing of questions previously provided to the company.
Among questions planned for the May 4 hearing include information about the investigation of the security breach, as well as when Sony informed officials of the breach. Clarification regarding Sony’s insistence that credit card information has not been compromised and assurance that the company is working to prevent future breaches is also being sought by the U.S. government.

Somehow, I disagree with the Xbox 360 and PC having better online gaming… The 360 is constantly being hacked, and everyday peoples information is getting stolen, but it’s kept to such a small scale, that Microsoft doesn’t care. Even if it were as big as this thing, I doubt they would shut down the online features to PROTECT the users information.
I think when Playstation took their network offline, that it was a good idea, and probably stopped the hackers from getting in further.

The time it took to tell the users seemed long, but they were probably trying to a)find what was taken, and b) how to tell the consumer. Sony shut the service down knowing that they were going to take a huge hit from so called Sony fans.
Second, the network will be uber protected once its back. If the game companies were smart, they would take this time to modify their servers as well. First, Sony only releases the system and provides a network to play the games on, they don’t D/C you, that has to do with the game your playing. Second, anything that you have to pay for, such as boxers in fight night, is decided by the producers and publishers of the games your playing, again nothing to do with Sony. And you don’t have to be 10 to go outside. Just because you decided against having a social life after grade 5 doesn’t everybody has.

We only became victims through the victimization of Sony. Hackers and crackers have been an issue for quite a while with Modern Warfare 2. I don’t know how many times I have seen people flash up an admin menu and have made themselves invulnerable, or each of their shots are headshots. I’ve also had my account hacked, my Exp and challenges reset, and my clan name changed to [ C * N T ]. Take a look at the top of the leader board and you will see how ridiculous some of the stats are. These things should be very easy to fix, nut no action has been taken.
Thank you for trying to fix vulnerabilities. Be careful, if you say that the problems have been fixed then you are making yourself a bigger target you will become.
A couple of weeks without PSN is not a big deal. I would encourage as many of you as possible to take the time to volunteer, get another hobby, or perhaps practice your grammar. Also, I would advise everyone to not give any online company your real info because this will result in reduced identity theft and spam. I don’t care if my info got hacked because it’s not actually my info.

What happened here is also Sony fault. If they did their job correctly to make sure that personal informations and credits cards informations were safe, it would save us from this kind of situation! The PSN as far as im concerned has always updated way to much. It seemed like every month there was a firware update. Now I’m no fan boy of any particular system, I own both systems. Both have Pros And Cons. There pretty much matched as far as gaming power, but this FAIL is way to bitter a pill to swallow. With a company as big as sony, you would think there security would be more tight. I think when sony does get the network back up, they should add some money to our accounts for our frustrations.
But I ad this: What did we do before multiplayer gaming? Hmmm maybe be more social, actually went outside…

Ace, I work 6 to 7 days a week myself at 12 hours a day and I too love to sit down and play my ps3 when I get home instead of going out.
But I am one of those people who have said shut your mouth and go play outside. These kids have no respect when they play online and know nothing else but pushing buttons on a controller so yea they can fuck off with thier whiny comments! The games we play don’t need to be online you know, they can be played otherwise and that is what people aren’t getting and need to relax until the system is completely fixed so this will never happen again.
