The viral photos taken of a fan pretending to be drunk when meeting his idol, actor Tom Hanks, in a local restaurant, have gone viral to the tune of more than 4 million hits.
The good natured Hanks went along with the gag when the young man slouched on his shoulder as though wasted with Hanks glasses perched on his head while his friend shot photos.
Hanks managed to look confused when the fan took a nose-dive into the pizza on the table as though he had passed out.
The fan who wanted the wasted photos is as yet unidentified, but sources say that the pictures were taken while Hanks and his actress wife Rita Wilson were vacationing recently in Fargo, ND.
“My friend met Tom Hanks, stole his glasses and pretended to be wasted,” reads the headline of a post on Reddit linking to the images, which have been viewed more than 974,000 times.
The photos have sparked a torrent of response from other Hanks fans across the country.
“Wow, those made me smile,” wrote one fan on Reddit.
“I think I met him when I was about 13 at Typhoon Lagoon… we were on some lazy river tube thing and I looked over and said “you look familiar”.
“The guy goes “Oh yeah? Who do I look like?” Dumb me… “Uh…Tom….Tom something…Tom… Cruise?” The guy let out the biggest Tom Hanks movie laugh.”
Another fan wrote: ‘I met Tom Hanks about 15 years ago at Disneyland. I was waiting after getting off Thunder Mountain Railroad and he walked up and I introduced myself and just mentioned that I really liked his movies. He shook my hand and was very appreciative. Really nice guy.’
Hanks has a busy fall ahead, with a new feature film, “Cloud Atlas”, being released in October and his own plans to produce a film about the assassination of President John F. Kennedy already in the works.

Tom Hanks is one of the Best Actors of All Time! This shows that he is also approachable and can have a good laugh.
A poor performance by all three people. The “drunkard” in the first photo is not the same as the “drunkard” in the second two.
On top of it, I’m sure one of them is probably his son.
I love Tom Hanks just like most people but these photos look fake to me. I think they posed for it. in one picture the glasses are in Tomm’s hand and in the next they are on the guy’s face. this is not believeable.
