“Mama June” and Mike “Sugar Bear” Thompson made it official and married over the weekend in the backyard of the bride’s home in Georgia. Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, her 7-year old daughter who also stars with her mother in their hit reality series, was in attendance at the happy occasion wearing a floor-length dress featuring rows of ruffles in hot pink and day-glo orange.
Mama June Shannon showed off her flamboyant personality by ditching the traditional white wedding dress in favor of a camouflage gown that was trimmed in orange lace and ribbons. Her choice of a floral bouquet also complemented her choice of gown as she opted to carry a bouquet of roses in assorted colors rather than a monochromatic color display.
Cameras were on hand to officially record the nuptials and ensuing reception so that viewers could enjoy the festivities themselves when the new season of “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” returns to The Learning Channel in mid-July.
Honey Boo Boo (real name Alanna Thompson) and big sisters Pumpkin, Chickadee and Chubbs witnessed their parents exchange vows today in their Georgia backyward, People reports, but they won’t confirm whether or not they’ve legally tied the knot.
“You’ll have to watch the new season,” a TLC rep tells E! News (Here Comes Honey Boo Boo returns to TLC July 17, so write that down).
“The day was very special mostly because my girls were able to take part in it,” June told the mag, “I felt like it was important for them to see this moment and celebrate my love for Sugar Bear.”
Guests at the wedding ceremony, however, were instructed in the wedding invitation to refrain from taking photos or video-taping the ceremony. And in true “Mama June” fashion, the traditional formal attire was thrown out in favor of “full redneck” garb.
“A lot of people say they can relate to us,” Shannon told Ryan Seacrest during a radio interview in August 2012. “Our fan base tells us that when they have a bad day they can be able to watch our show and be able to get a good laugh; I honestly laugh at the show too because it is kind of funny, because we know we have fun filming it. It’s just all about having fun making memories.”
As for finding your own “sugar bear” Momma June has some advice.
“Never settle for a man who doesn’t treat you right,” she says. “If a guy doesn’t love everything about you, move on! There are plenty of other fish in the sea.”
She continued, “I give this advice to my daughters, because I always want them to be themselves and surround themselves with people who love them for them.”
Us Weekly has exclusive photos of the happy event.
