Feminist Spoof of Taylor Swift Goes Viral
Clara Beyer of Brown University is a feminist.
However, her music taste may belie that point given that she is a fan of Taylor Swift. Swift isn’t known for espousing any such thinking in her lyrics. Well, Beyer has found the happy medium and proudly displays that on her Facebook and Twitter accounts which have now gone viral.
Even the vintage WWII poster of a strong industrial-working woman flexing her muscle was altered to have Taylor Swift’s image against the caption, “We can do it!” Beyer has taken lyrics from popular Swift songs and modified them with a twist of feminism. One such lyric was taken from the hit song “22” which originally read as “We’re happy, free, confused, and lonely at the same time”.
It now reads, “We’re happy, free, confused, and oppressed by the patriarchy at the same time”. Beyer’s unauthorized editions to Swift’s lyrics would make Russian Punk rock group “Pussy Riot” proud.
The Eastern-European ultra-feminist group “Femen” would likely give their nod of approval as well. The move appears to be popular. Beyer has gained roughly 50,000 Facebook friends since launching her page. For her part, Swift has said that she was raised to believe women could achieve the same things as men.
