Venezuelan Gabriela Isler Captures Miss Universe Crown
There is something lucky about women from Venezuela.
The crowning of Miss Venezuela, Gabriela Isler, as the newest Miss Universe, marks the third time since 2007 that a beauty queen from that country has taken top honors in the Miss Universe pageant.
Isler, a 25-year old flamenco dancer and model presenter on television shows, received the Miss Universe crown from last year’s recipient, Miss USA, Olivia Culpo. Miss Spain, Patricia Rodrigues, was named first runner up and takes over the title in the event Isler cannot perform all of her Miss Universe duties.
As a laughing and smiling Isler began her victory walk down the red carpet, the diamond crown that was recently placed on her head began to fall and she quickly caught it with her left hand. Isler impressed the judges with her poise, personality and stunning figure, costumed in a red cocktail dress and later strutting her stuff in a form-fitting red bikini swimsuit, accented with a white fur stole.
Isler, who stands 1.78 m (5 ft 10 in), competed as Miss Guárico, one of 24 finalists in her country’s national beauty pageant Miss Venezuela 2012, held on August 30, 2012 in Caracas, where she obtained the Miss Elegance award and became the ninth Miss Venezuela winner from Guárico, gaining the right to represent her country in Miss Universe 2013.
The competition was held in Moscow, although Miss Russia was eliminated early on in the evening, prompting complaints from audience members. Pageant organizer Donald Trump said he banned NSA security leaker Edward Snowden from attending the event.
