Spears Song Alien Leaked Without Auto-Tune
Britney Spears’ singing talent has again come under criticism after an unnamed source released a raw version of her song “Alien” that did not feature auto-tune, according to Mashable.
Auto-tune is a special processing technique that automatically corrects any out of tune notes in a vocalist’s performance. But one of her writer/producers has come to her rescue by making a public statement to her fans explaining that the unauthorized song version recently released online was taped during one of Spears’ warm-up sessions in the studio, which accounts for this particular vocalization sounding rather strange.
Producer William Orbit posted an online message, admitting that he has heard the raw version of “Alien” now available online which was brought to his attention by many of Spears’ fans. He also informed her fans that this particular version was recorded while Britney was warming up her voice at the microphone, accounting for many of the strange sounds and range of vocal pitches that can be heard. Orbit also insists that warm-up vocalizations are meant to help the singer and her sound engineer rather than being shared with an audience because it is not an official “take” of the final song version after all of the bugs have been worked out.
“I’d like to affirm that ANY singer when first at the mic at the start of a long session can make a multitude of vocalisations in order to get warmed up,” Orbit wrote. “Warming up is essential if you’re a pro, as it is with a runner doing stretches, and it takes a while to do properly. I’ve heard all manner of sounds emitted during warm-ups. The point is that it is not supposed to be shared with millions of listeners.
Orbit characterized Spears as a “generous singer” who took the time to vocalize at the mike ahead of the formal recording session in order for the sound engineer to get his recording systems up and running and operating at all the proper sound levels. He called the individual who put the raw song online as being very unkind and mean spirited. He ended his message to “Music Lovers” by proclaiming that Britney Spears is a magnificent talent who “is and always will be beyond Stellar” despite some unscrupulous person’s attempt to discredit her.
“A generous singer will put something down the mic to help the engineer get their systems warmed up and at the right level, maybe whilst having a cup of herb tea and checking through lyrics before the session really kicks off. It’s not expected to be a ‘take.'”
Spears has yet to comment on the leak.
Here’s what the finished track sounded like.
