Orlando Shooting Update

For the second time in 24 hours, Americans are learning about another workplace shooting spree; this time in Orlando, Florida. There has been one confirmed death and at least five injuries as a result of the attack. Forty-year-old Jason Rodriguez, a former employee of the architectural engineering firm Reynolds, Smith and Hills, returned to the the firm over two years after being fired for a poor performance review.

Allegedly believing that the firm was preventing him from collecting unemployment benefits, Rodriguez entered the eighth floor of the office building and began shooting near the receptionists desk. He then swept through the entire office shooting in all directions before he turned and left. Many former co-workers recognized him and others were able to give a description of his vehicle.

Arrested later at his mother’s home, Rodriguez shouted at reporters who were broadcasting the events live, “They left me to rot!” He also yelled “Innocent!” at other reporters as he was being taken in to the police station.

A spokesperson for the firm said that they were having trouble making sense the incident since nobody had heard from Rodriguez since he was fired in June of 2007.

All of the survivors are listed in stable condition and Jason Rodriguez has since been charged with first degree murder.

There’s clearly a lack of mental health and logical thinking. Maybe there wouldn’t be as many revenge shootings if there were more places to seek mental health counselling, the government is at fault there.
