Beer, Wine Good For Bones: Report

As we get older, our bones deteriorate. They become brittle and this is the reason that certain supplements are advised. Now comes reports that one or two glasses of beer and or wine a day can help strengthen the bones of older adults.

A recent study by the Human Nutrition Research Center at Tufts University in Boston, Mass. has determined that consuming small amounts of alcohol each day can actually help bone density.

The study was done on 60-year-old men and post menopausal women. While they determined that large and moderate amounts can affect bone density negatively, small amounts can actually help improve it.

The study went on to say that there was better and improved bone density in men and women who drank beer and wine than those who drank hard liquors such as vodka and whiskey.

The study called for the men and women to drink three glasses beer or wine a day and this is what produced the results.

This research was published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition and was done over a year ago. While some doctors and physicians have tended to shy away from this study, it also goes to prove the health benefits of small amounts of wine and beer.
