US Feds Recall Children Bracelet Over Toxic Metal Cadmium

Many Christmas bracelets made for children are being recalled by Federal regulators due to a problem with Cadmium. The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Division has determined that the toxic metal Cadmium was present in high levels. Kidneys and bones of children can be damaged by the presence of Cadmium.

These inexpensive items were sold at discount stores, known as dollar-type establishments. The bracelets had Christmas themes such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. Some items were made entirely out of Cadmium, which is even more toxic than if only used as part of an alloy. The recommendation to parents was to throw the products away.

All the products were made in China. The American consumer who is dependent on Chinese imports at low prices, are getting products that are dangerous. The company that imported the products is no longer in business, making a recall more difficult to implement. Buy-Rite Designs, the importer was subject to more than one recall, contributing to its going out of business.

Not enough testing is being conducted on products imported from China. In defense of the Chinese, many corporate executives state that when you tell the producer to make the product as cheaply as possible, this is often the result.
