Processed Red Meat Contributing to Cancer?
A study by the National Cancer Institute is revealing that processed red meat may lead to an increased risk for bladder cancer.
Processed red meat typically will use the preservatives nitrate and nitrite.
Common processed meats include cold cut meat from a deli, most types of hot dogs, and all kinds of pepperoni.
The preparation of the meat may determine the increase in the amount of risk. However, the bladder cancer risk did not increase with other meats like beef, hamburger, steak, or white meats.
The study followed 300,933 men and women for seven years. Participants were 50 to 71 years old.
