Woman Kandi Gay Sends Texts in Sleep

According to researchers, one in 70 million American’s have a sleep disorder of some type. For Kandi Gay, a paramedic from Quad City, her sleep disorder is a bit different from most. Gay texts her friends in her sleep.

While in a stasis between awake and asleep, Gay sends texts to people, and responds. When she awakes, she has no recollection of what was said during the conversation. Sleep specialists say that Gay is not alone in sending sleep texts. Instances are being observed by parents and researchers, particularly with young adults and teenagers with smartphones.

A prior study examined sleep emailing, where a woman was sending and responding to emails in her sleep with no recollection. There are currently no studies looking into sleep texting. For Gay, the advice she was given by experts was simple. Turn your phone off before bed, and put it out of arms reach.
