It appears even Hollywood can get nasty rashes. Kim Kardashian will come clean about her red rash on her reality show. It seems the diva was diagnosed with Psoriasis. However, I would not count her career over with a few red bumps.
Psoriasis manifests as itchy, dry, red, flaky, thick patches of skin. It can also cause dandruff, nail changes (like yellow spots, nail thickening and dents on the surface) and genital lesions for men. Arthritis is also common.
The condition is usually hereditary, and most likely occurs because the immune system mistakes healthy cells for dangerous ones. It’s most common in people ages 15 and 35, and it’s not contagious.
Kim’s mother also suffers from Psoriasis, so when the red bumps appeared; Kim was pretty sure what was going on. She has appeared in public several times with red bumps and a slight rash on the back of her legs. This might get the reality star brownie points for being a normal lady. The part about being a Hollywood star is creating the perfect image. Making her ailments known, regardless of how small, might actually boost her popularity.
The good news for Kim is Psoriasis is a completely manageable condition with creams and pills and in severe cases, injections. So, while this won’t take Kim out of commission for a while, she may have to wear jeans to cover the embarrassing red rash.
After seeing her dermatologist, Kim panicked when she researched the condition on the internet and realised her entire body could end up covered in the painful patches.
“My career is doing ad campaigns and swimsuit photo shoots,’ she cried. ‘People don’t understand the pressure on me to look perfect.
“When I gain a pound, it’s in the headlines. Imagine what the tabloids would do to me if they saw all these spots?”
The hereditary disease was passed down to Kim from her mother Kris Jenner.
“I got it for the first time when I was exactly your age,’ Kris told her distraught daughter on the show. ‘I cried myself to sleep for months.”
