miss south texas 100 pounds: How Did Beauty Queen Drop 100 Pounds?

MISS SOUTH TEXAS And Her 100 Pound Transformation

Keli Kryfko, competitor in the upcoming Miss Texas beauty competition may be slim, blonde and beautiful today, but a year and half ago she was 200 pounds. Like many other Americans she struggled with weight most of her life. She lacked good eating habits and exercise, and says having friends or feeling accepted was difficult.

She remembers being talked about in school when she couldn’t complete the fitness test. While it was a hurtful memory it was that conversation that motivated her success in weight loss. Not wanting to be defined by her weight she began a weight loss program.

Keli admitted: “I wasn’t in the right body for that. And I definitely wasn’t in the right mindset. I didn’t treat myself well.”

Miss South Texas also talked about her unfit lifestyle 100 pounds ago:

“I wasn’t able to do any of it and it was so embarrassing. So I went back into the locker room hoping no one would notice and I overheard these girls saying, ‘Can you believe the fat girl couldn’t do any of it?’ And I realized, oh my gosh, they’re talking about me. I didn’t want that to be my definition. I’m much more than those names that people are calling me.”

While many lose 50 pounds and more with expensive surgeries, personal trainers, and weight loss regiments Kryfko didn’t do any of that. She lost 70 pounds in a year and a half simply by cutting unhealthy foods out of her diet, one by one. First she gave up sugary Dr. Pepper drinks, and then began cutting back on fried and high fat foods. She also cut back on cheese, and began implementing healthy foods and healthy portion sizes. She then added exercise, and her transformation is still ongoing.

Most of her meals are cooked at home, but when she does eat out she tries to select foods that are healthy alternatives, such as streamed broccoli, and chicken, instead of fried chicken and vegetables. Instead of giving in to social pressure when eating out she’s learned being picky about foods, such as foods prepared without butter, keeps her at an appropriate weight. Participating in pageants has also helped build self–esteem and confidence. It keeps her focused on maintaining a healthy weight, and forces her to think about body image. She currently is doing 30 minute cardio workout routines every morning, and strength training sessions at night to help prepare for the Miss Texas pageant.

Kryfko says she hopes her story will help inspire others to make similar life-changing transformations.

On her website she writes, “I will always be proud of the 100 pounds I LOST, but GAINING the chance to change others [sic] lives has been my biggest accomplishment. My ultimate dream is to be an inspirational speaker all over this country.”

Kryfko will begin competing for the title of Miss Texas at the end of June.
