Strong Santa Ana winds and low humidity in the area have only helped to strengthen the fire which has consumed at least 1,000 acres so far. CNN coverage has shown aerial views of the fire with thick clouds of smoke drifting over the ocean. Fire and smoke are making access to Malibu difficult for firefighters. Currently, 400 to 500 firefighters are working on fighting the blaze. Speaking to Reuters, Los Angeles County Fire Chief P. Michael Freeman said the fire was expected "to last a couple of days and literally thousands of homes are going to be threatened." Fire crews discovered down power lines, which may be responsible for starting the devastating fire. There have been no reports of injuries or death. |
