Radiohead In Rainbows Experiment Results

It has been revealed that 38% of consumers paid an average of $6 to download the new Radiohead album, Boston (eCanadaNow) - It has been revealed that 38% of consumers paid an average of $6 to download the new Radiohead album, "In Rainbows" which was made available in October as a free download, where users could pay as little or as much as they wish for the album online.

The Radiohead experiment with their new album may not have turned out as great as they had hoped.  62% of those who downloaded across the globe paid pretty much nothing according to figures released in regards to sales of the album online.

The percentage of users in the U.S. who paid nothing for the album was actually lower than the rest of the world as 60% of U.S. users paid virtually nothing while the world was at 64%.

U.S. paying customers put out more money on average, $8.05 on average per download.  The international average was just $4.64.

The biggest percentage of those who actually paid, which was 17% of downloaders, only paid on average under $4.  12% paid between $8 and $12.

The bright side to this though is that 40% of consumers did put out some real money for a product they could have gotten for free if they desired to do so.  This does give Radiohead and other groups some hope that this could work.  The stats came from comScore which represents tracking of 2 million people online.
