He was the writer who co-authored the screenplay and book 2001: A Space Odyssey, and also came up with the idea for communication via satellite in the 1940s.

He passed away at a hospital near his home in Sri Lanka on Wednesday morning at the age of 90-years-old.

He was a legend to say the least, idolized by all science fiction fans.

Scott Chase, secretary of the nonprofit Arthur C. Clarke foundation, put out a statement on the author's web site stating "He had been taken to hospital in what we had hoped was one of the slings and arrows of being 90, but in this case it was his final time."

He always wrote in a manner that showcased just how technology pushes the human race each and every day.
