Nearly 30 Years After Perishing From Cancer He Still Inspires

Mississauga- Terry Fox ran tirelessly for thousands of kilometres, working to raise awareness of cancer and the fight against the deadly disease.

Now, close to 30 years after his death, the name still evokes a smile and fond memories of the man who called his efforts his own “journey of hope.”

Terry Fox suffered from cancer, and during his life he ran more than 5,000 kilometres, averaging about 42 kilometres a day, working to raise cancer awareness and to raise money to fight the dread disease.

Long after his death, there continues to be an annual marathon and fund raising effort, to raise funding for research and prevention and to work to try to find a cure to prevent others from getting or dying from cancer.

The Terry Fox foundation runs ongoing fundraising efforts, and the Terry Fox Van, the same one that accompanied Terry on his daily runs to raise money, continues to travel around Canada to raise awareness and support for the fight against Cancer.

Recently the Terry Fox van made a pitstop in Mississauga and distributed information about the Terry Fox foundation, and materials about their annual fund raising efforts.

Terry Fox was a brave man and a bright light to those that suffer from cancer, and his courage, determination, selflessness and enthusiasm will long be remembered, and his efforts carried on by the foundation that bears his name.
