New York (ECN) - Captain James T. Kirk and the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise make their highly anticipated return to the big screen next year in J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek,”

Some images have quickly been cicrcirculating internet showing Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock. Entertianment Weekly also has an interesting interview with director JJ Amrams.

"All my smart friends liked 'Star Trek.' I preferred a more visceral experience," said director JJ Amrams in a new interview with Entertainment Weekly,, on newsstands Friday.

He also said the franchise idealism attracted him to the project.

"I think a movie that shows people of various races working together and surviving hundreds of years from now is not a bad message to put out right now," he says. "In a world where a movie as incredibly produced as 'The Dark Knight' is raking in gazillions of dollars, 'Star Trek' stands in stark contrast. It was important to me that optimism be cool again."

Abrams says he wants Strar Trek to movie people "the way 'Star Wars' did."

'Star Trek' which was origitally schedualed for a December 2008 release will now hit threatres in May of 2009.
