Will Apple Really Buy Twitter?

Rumor has it that Apple is wanting to purchase the social buzz site, Twitter.

Tuesday, May 05, 2009 - Rumor has it that Apple is wanting to purchase the social buzz site, Twitter.
Twitter is being offered a total amount of at least $700 million from Apple.

The social networking and microblogging site has over 25 million plus users and the estimated growth rate is about 40 percent per week. Twitter has celebrity appearances of Ashton Kutcher, Oprah Winfrey and Britney Spears on their site.


Apple is a profitable company, but paying the sum of $700 million is a lot to pay up front, especially for a business that has to come up with a plan to gain capital on the over 25 million users.

PC World suggests that Apple is trying to delve intot he lucrative web market.  With Twitter being the hottest web property in the past several month, perhaps it makes sense.

Some people are wondering how Twitter will fit into Apple and its business it serves.
It has been reported that Apple and Twitter are having serious negotiations over the deal and the results may be reveiled in June at the earliest.

Last year Facebook was wanting to buy Twitter with an offer for $500 million, it obviously didn’t go through and according to a report in BusinessWeek, Peter Thiel a Facebook investor stated that the offer was broke down by what the social networking site was worth. Rumors have been said that Google made an offer to the owners of Twitter too, and the offer was not accepted either.

MySpace owner, News Crop has also expressed interested in the growing start-up.

At the Worldwide Developers Conference in June, Apples appearance might introduce their next gerneration device of the iPhone and coincide the purchasing of Twitter. This conference takes place in San Jose, California.
