Is Life On Mars Possible?

It would be an enthralling feeling to live on Mars, isn’t it? With different explorations by NASA and 2030 expedition set in stone, is it really possible to live on this planet?

NASA has recently reported that long-term living on this red planet is possible.

In a full technical paper by NASA, titled “Frontier In-Situ Resource Utilization for Enabling Sustained Human Presence on Mars,” it is highly feasible for humans to live on planet Mars. However, here is the catch. Innovators of the red planet have to live “off the land”.

The authors state that “There are massive resources on Mars obtainable from the atmosphere and extracted from the regolith which are capable of supporting human colonization”.

It is said that the existing technologies can offer fuel, water, oxygen, and as well as building materials. The report further states that the NASA should be matching ISRU with technologies such as nanotechnology, 3D printing and autonomy, machine intelligence, robotics and synthetic biology.

NASA explains, “These technologies, combined with the vast natural resources, should enable serious, pre- and post-human arrival ISRU to greatly increase reliability and safety and reduce the cost for human colonization of Mars”.

In the year 2010, planetary scientists Robert Zubrin and Christopher McKay explained the visual concepts on how Mars can be a friendly planet for humans.

NASA is all set to proceed with the final construction of its next Mars wanderer that will be launched in the year 2020. This will investigate the evidence of past life on Mars that will help to prepare the future missions.

It will collect the samples of soil and rocks.

Geoffrey Yoder, from Nasa’s Science Mission Directorate, says, “The Mars 2020 rover is the first step in a potential multi-mission campaign to return carefully selected and sealed samples of Martian rocks and soil to Earth”.
