That last minute shopping may counter snow conditions and low customer turn-out that many retailers were facing during the past week.
The blustery winter weather along the Mid-Atlantic coastline filled the streets and sidewalks with snow brought shopping to a standstill. Retailers had been aware that the storm was coming but there was little to do other than hold on to the faint hope that the holiday shopping season could still be salvaged in the final few days.
It appears that retailers asked Santa to send them more customers because a strong surge in last minute shopping may counter snow slowdown days after all. Many stores are reporting unusually high numbers of shoppers as people once again take to the streets in search of those ultimate gifts.
Those snowy conditions were not as relentless as first predicted and instead of a devastating blizzard the East Coast was transformed into a Merry Christmas Wonderland which is now boosting sales for thousands of grateful store owners.
