Retail: Last Minute Shopping May Counter Snow

With todaY Being the final day of shopping befo the big day; many business have lost money, but are hoping to gain back their loss due to the winter storms that snowed in shoppers

The bad snow storms that had hit over East had most people stuck at home not being able to get the last few things on their list for Christmas, this past weekend.

Record snowfall had stores shutting their doors early and shoppers stayed home, according to the National Retail Federation.

Some stores have offered to stay open later than usual for those shoppers that need those christmas lists taken care of.

Ellen Davis a spokeswoman for the National Retail Federation stated that many retailers may extend all their weekend promotions into Monday and Tuesday to give the snowed in shoppers a chance to get the deals that was advertised for the weekend. The attraction of the prolonged promotions can gain the stores the money they lost due to the weather.

Matt Rubel a chief executive officer of Collective Brands Inc, mentioned in an e-mail “There are more than enough shopping days to make up any challenges due to weather in the east.”
A co-owner of The Strand bookstore in Manhattan, Nancy Bass Wyden said in a telephone interview yesterday “ Up until 6:30 at night, we were headed to have the busiest day at the Strand, and then the weather definitely caught us. I guess people got scared away by the storm.”

Expectant retail owners are hoping for the best turnout recovery to gain their profits back before Christmas.

Most Walmart locations across US and Canada are open until 6:00pm tonight.
