30th Pacman Anniversary, Did You Play Free Online?

This past weekend Google did a great tribute to the 30th anniversary of Pacman by turning it’s iconic logo into a mini Pacman game. It is estimated that over a billion users played the game over a 3 day period. They then went on to make an online game available to users forever.

Google went on to recognize Pacman as a huge development in pop culture and it has long been beloved icon for many from that generation. Google went on to say they feel that Pacman is a natural fit for their homepage and have hopes that users have as much fun using Google as they do playing the light-hearted game of Pacman.

Pacman was first thought of by the 55 year old Toru Iwatani as he sat eating his lunch in Japan in 1979. Toru Iwatani is now a professor at Tokyo Polytechnic University. It was released at first as an arcade game in Japan on May 22, 1980. It was originally to be called “Puck Man” but was instead called “Pacman”.

Pacman quickly became the most popular computer game with several similar versions released although none were as popular as the original. There are an estimated 50 versions and game experts believer that over 10 billion games of it have been played over time.

Loved the 30th anniversary on Google. Played all weekend. It was awesome. I was there when the original PacMan was introduced and I had forgotten how much fun it was to play that game. Thanks Google for bringing back great memories!
