It is hard to believe that the iconic arcade game Pac-Man has reached 30 years old. This past weekend celebrated that milestone. The Pac-Man craze became a reality on May 22, 1980 and since then has held its own in the gaming world and even sparked a worldwide Pac-Man dance.

It is safe to say that Pac-Man is a character that is known all over the world. The game was an idea that was the brainchild of Japanese game maker Namco. One of the workers on the project said the main character should be called Pac-Man. It was a slang for the sound that is made when the mouth opens and closes.

The Guiness Book of World Records recognizes Pac-Man as the most recognizable video game character in the United States. It is said that 94 percent of all American households know who Pac-Man is. It barely beat out Mario from Super Mario Brothers who is said to be recognized by 93 percent.

There were Pac-Man game playing celebrations all over the world over the weekend for the occasion. Google honored Pac-Man by unveiling its first interactive ‘Doodle’. Google always adds drawings and characters to its logo on its website for holidays and special events. A playable Pac-Man game was the Doodle this past weekend.
