When Is Father’s Day 2010

In the Northern Hemisphere countries like the U.S. and Canada, Father’s day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. This has been a standard practice since this holiday was first officially adopted in 1966. Thus for the year 2010, it will be recognized on the 20th day of June.

It was only after Mother’s day became so popular that this holiday actually came into being. It is now celebrated by 55 countries around the globe. Each has its own unique customs and rituals all honoring the very man who helped raise you into the fine person that you are.

The person most often recognized for beginning this tradition was Sonara Smart Dodd, who in 1909 came up with this idea while attending church services in Spokane Washington. The idea didn’t firmly take root until the presidency of Woodrow Wilson who was a strong advocate. Hist successor, Calvin Coolidge was the first to actually recommend the official recognition of this holiday.

Father’s day has had a long and glorious history, with the unofficial 101st anniversary of its founding this year. It should be a time to celebrate the men who helped to raise fine sons and daughters everywhere on earth.
