With most holidays comes a new Twitter trend of the day, and Tuesday’s trend was “candy heart rejects” for Valentine’s Day.
Users on the popular social networking site spent the day coming up with messages on those little candy hearts that a recipient would not be happy to read. The messages were posted throughout the day with the #CandyHeartRejects hashtag.
Some of the messages indicated a rocky patch in the relationship, like “We need to talk” and “Let’s just be friends.” Others were just tacky compliments, such as “#1 3rd wife” and “You’re not that fat.”
Sweet messages on candied hearts date all the way back to 1901 and have become a Valentine’s tradition. They are known as “Sweethearts” in the U.S. and “Love Hearts” in the U.K. The conversation hearts that most people are used to receiving from loved ones say things like “Be mine” and “I love you.”
