Richmond, B.C. (eCanadaNow) - - Last year the firm of Dettwiler and Associates, located in Richmond, B.C. began to quietly offer for sale a variety of defense and space assets. They went so far as to approach several large customers, at least seven that are known to have been offered various space and technology assets.

In June, the Wall Street Journal first broke the story about the defection by the Canadian Aerospace Company.  Up for sale according to the story in the Journal was the Radarsat – 2 satellites, which is an advanced satellite without comparison in the world.   In its particular design it is the most advanced craft of its nature in the world.

In addition the company was quietly making for sale the Canadarm, the remote robot system designed to refuel various orbiting satellites, and various other optical imaging and radar equipment.

Macdonald Dettwiller and Associates denied the Wall Street Journal Story when it appeared in June, claiming it has not put anything up for sale.

It had in reality done just that

The sale of such technology is puzzling to say the least.  It literally could leave Canada and Canadian interests at a loss and extreme disadvantage in keeping watch over key areas such as Arctic exploration, and other areas surveyed by satellite.  Selling key technology to other nations, including the United States could leave Canada vulnerable.
