Ottawa (eCanadaNow) - The ambassador from Serbia to Canada is angry, and says that his country will formally protest the announced decision for Canada to recognized the independence of Kosovo. The Serbian Ambassador denounced the decision by the Canadian Government as fraudulent, and that it should not occur.
Serbia is contesting the right of Kosovo to declare its independence. Over 30 other countries have already recognized Kosovo’s claim to independence including the United Kingdom, and the United States.
Ambassador Dusan Batokovic has said that he is also being recalled back to Serbia for short time. This is thought to be in response to the announcement that Canada is going to recognize Kovovo’s independence, and is an attempt to show displeasure
Many of the countries that have already recognized Kosovo have said in the past that the case for independence for Kosovo is a unique situation. It is precisely because of some of the ethnic cleansing that took place that were visited by the Serbs that the case of independence is viewed favorably.
The western nations joined together in NATO to force the Serbs to stop their ethnic cleansing in the 1990s. Despite this the Serbian ambassador is vehement in saying that the United States and Canada has made a grave mistake in accepting Kosovo for independence.
