It’s a Mystery But Search Giant Fails To Celebrate Annual EventOttawa (ECN) - No one, not even the folks at Google seem to know why, but the annual nod to the Canada Day celebration temporary change of the online Google logo was skipped this year.
Normally, in every year since 2001, Google has changed its website logo for the day, featuring a version of the Google Logo with Maple Leaves, a loon, or perhaps a beaver.
But for only the 2nd time since 2001, Google totally mystified Canadians and fans everywhere by ignoring Canada Day this year.
In 2003, for no apparent reason, Google ignored Canada Day, and failed to feature a changed logo.
It happened again this year, and no one seems to know precisely why?
A spokesperson from Google when asked about the apparent snub had little encouragement.
“We are sorry we missed one that is special to you, we have to balance our rotating calendar with the consistency of the Google homepage,” said the Google spokesman.
While it is unknown if it was purposeful or merely an ignorant oversight, many Canadians enjoy and have looked forward to the annual one day Google Logo change, and its absence was very notable among Canadian Google Web Site Fans.
