
Toronto (ECN) - Former Ontario Attorney General facing charges in regards to a cyclist’s death.
Michael Bryant has been charged with criminal negligence causing death and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing the death of Darcy Allan Sheppard, a bike courier in the area.
Bryant was released from police custody Tuesday afternoon.
Police say there was an altercation between the cyclist and the driver of the car shortly before 10 p.m. Monday night. It happened near the intersection of Bloor and Bay which resulted in a minor collision. The cyclist is said to have hung onto the driver's side while the driver yelled at him to get off as both continued westbound on Bloor.
The 33-year-old cyclist, has been identified by friends as Darcy Allan Sheppard.(see photo).
At some point during the altercation the cyclist fell off some distance later. Police say it was near Avenue Road.
The victim was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Police say the driver pulled into a nearby hotel on Avenue Road and called police.
Bryant, who was Ontario's Attorney General, Aboriginal Affairs Minister and Minister of Economic Development left provincial politics early this year to accept
