Police Use Internet Recruiting In Vancouver

Many people know that the Internet is a method of catching online criminals, but how about the Internet as a method of snagging candidates and recruits for police jobs?

Vancouver Police Turn To Facebook And YouTube For Candidates

Vancouver, B.C. (eCanadaNow) - Many people know that the Internet is a method of catching online criminals, but how about the Internet as a method of snagging candidates and recruits for police jobs?

Officials and the Police department in Vancouver British Columbia are using the Internet to reach out directly to young people in an effort to gain more applications for their police department.

Using the ever popular YouTube and Facebook web sites, the police department in Vancouver hopes to generate interest and applicants for their department, for jobs working in various sections of the Vancouver police department.

“Many young people use the YouTube sites and the Internet each day, this is just a different way of advertising the job opportunities we have here on the police department in Vancouver,” said Police Superintendent Steve Schnitzer.

“This is the newspaper of the younger set, and it’s a prime method of how young people today communicate,” said Schnitzer.

This is the first time that a police department in Canada has used such a method in an effort to recruit officers. Many departments in Canada and throughout the world use the Internet and web sites to advertise, but the effort by the Vancouver Police department is different.

It uses Video, music and the streaming video methods found on these youth oriented web sites to make more of a total impact about their jobs and career openings.

It’s new in the program, but early results appear promising. There have been several candidates who have put in applications as a result of the new program.
