Toronto (eCanadaNow) - There was a final goodbye Saturday for a 16-year-old girl, allegedly murdered by her father.

Aqsa Parvez was strangled on Monday in her home. Parvez's funeral was supposed to take place at the Islamic Centre of Canada in Mississauga on Saturday afternoon.

But when people arrived, they found a sign that explained the family had decided to have a private service.

A vigil was also held for the Grade 11 student in the civic square near Mississauga's city hall. It was attended be several people who lit candles and held a five-minute moment of silence.

Parvez had reportedly clashed with her family for refusing to wear traditional Muslim garb. Some Muslim leaders dimiss that and suggest it was a case of domestic violence instead.

President of the Muslim Canadian Congress Farzana Hassen says it is very concerning that a conflict of that sort may have caused Parvez's death.

"The Quran does mandate the hijab. What the Quran does speak about is modesty, and modesty can be expressed in a number of different ways."

Parvez's father, Muhammad, a 57-year-old taxi driver from Mississauga, faces a murder charge in connection with the girl's death.

The murdered girl's brother was freed on bail on Friday.

Twenty-six year-old Waqas Parvez was charged with obstructing police in connection with the killing Monday of his sister.

Hiding his face from reporters, he was hustled away from a courthouse after his family posted 10-thousand dollars bail.

Online tributes for the 16-year-old murder victim are circulating like wildfire, especially on sites like Facebook.

The group "R.I.P Aqusa Parvez `91-`o7" currently has 4,776 members, 25 discussion topics and 39 photos of her.  The sites are filled with comments by her friends and strangers who saddened by her story.
