Montreal (eCanadaNow) -  A man and his family were relaxing in their home near Shawinigan on Sunday when they heard a loud noise.  The man was quick thinking, and rushed his two young sons out of the building, and managed to save his wife also getting her out of the structure.

But Guy Beauparlant was not as fortunate.  Despite being able to get his family to safety, he was caught inside his house when snow caused the roof to come crashing down.  The 55 year old man was killed instantly in this latest case of collapsed roofs due to record snowfall.

“He heard a loud noise, a crack.  He was able to save his wife, Marie Beauparlant, and his two sons, but he was on the second floor, and he didn’t make it out himself,” said Alan Beauparlant.  Alan is the victims brother.

This death joins the deaths of three women from a roof collapse in a building in Morin-Heights.

Mr. Beauparlant was well known and liked in the area; he was an enthusiastic promoter of tourism for the region, and a fervent supporter of the annual symposium of painters that takes place in Shawinigan.

The sad thing is it is reported that Mr. Beauparlant had plans to that very day clear the roof of his house of snow.
