Toronto (eCanadaNow) - The art student accused of planting a fake bomb at the entrance to the Royal Ontario Museum calls the package a "conceptual art piece".
24-year old Thorarinn Jonsson turned himself into Toronto Police on Thursdsay night. CP-24 spoke to Johnsson before he surrendered. He said he expected police to take it seriously but he expected them to immediately realize what they were dealing with.
The Ontarion College of Art and Design, (OCAD), student has been suspended pending a police investigation, following the Wednesday night bomb scare at the Royal Ontario Museum.
The President of the OCAD has confirmed to CFRB that she was told that one of her students may have staged the bomb threat at the ROM, but "OCAD had no information that the event was going to take place."
Sara Diamond, president of the Ontario College of Art and Design, where Jonsson is a student says she was the one who alerted police to the fact that an OCAD student may have been involved in the hoax.
"As an institution, we condemn this act by the student," said Diamond. "We are regretful in the deepest way possible, that the Royal Ontario Museum and CANFAR experienced this delay."
As a result, two film teachers have also been suspended.
Diamond said the school does not believe the teachers had any prior knowledge of the stunt. She said the You Tube video was apparently made as part of a class project, but the student took the project too far by allegedly placing the suspicious package in the lobby of the museum and calling in a fake bomb threat to police.
"It crossed the line between art and another behaviour that is unethical and became a threat to the public."
